Toshiba Electronic Components & Storage Devices Corporation recently announced the addition of five new 40V-rated products to its electronic fuse (eFuse IC) lineup: the "TCKE6 Series," including models TCKE601RA, TCKE601RL, TCKE602RM, TCKE603RA, and TCKE603RL, which have officially entered mass production and shipment.
The launch of the TCKE6 Series represents another strategic move by Toshiba in the eFuse sector. It not only fills the product gap in 40V medium-to-high voltage applications but also caters to the differentiated needs of various users through a "multi-functional integration + high flexibility" design. As an "intelligent protection core," eFuse ICs have emerged as one of the key components in power supply design, with applications spanning three major areas:
- Industrial Equipment: Industrial robots, PLCs, servo drives, and similar equipment require long-term stable operation, creating a strong demand for "overcurrent/overvoltage protection + fault self-recovery" capabilities;
- Consumer Electronics: Products such as robot vacuums, laptops, and smart home devices demand miniaturized packaging to save space, as well as low-power consumption to extend battery life;
- New Energy and Communications: In scenarios like energy storage systems and base station power supplies, requirements for "wide voltage compatibility + fast fault response" have driven eFuses to gradually replace discrete component solutions.
In addition to short-circuit protection similar to standard physical fuses, the new TCKE6 Series integrates current limiting and overvoltage protection features not available in traditional fuses. When an overcurrent or overvoltage occurs at any point in the circuit, these functions help prevent excessive current or voltage from damaging subsequent ICs. A key advantage of eFuse ICs is their built-in overheat protection: in the event of severe overheating or accidental short circuits, the eFuse IC can shut down immediately to safeguard the downstream circuit. Another major benefit is simplified circuit design: integrating multiple protection functions into a single device reduces the need for discrete components, enabling more compact and efficient designs with fewer parts and smaller packaging.
With a rated voltage of 40V, the TCKE6 Series supports a wide input voltage range of 4.4V to 30V, making it suitable for power management applications in 5V, 9V, 12V, and 24V systems. A low on-resistance of 52mΩ (typical) minimizes operating power consumption and enhances efficiency, while the compact TSOP6F package (typical dimensions 2.9mm × 2.8mm) helps reduce circuit board size. This series of eFuse ICs is well-suited for a wide range of industrial and consumer equipment applications.
The TCKE6 Series offers diverse functional configurations: some models feature a FLAG function (for detecting and reporting abnormalities), while others include an EN (enable) function (for controlling eFuse IC operation). It also provides two recovery types: auto-retry (where the eFuse IC automatically restores the circuit) and latch (requiring an external signal to trigger recovery). Additionally, one model in the series lacks FLAG or EN functions but supports switching between auto-retry and latch modes via an external signal. This versatile range of configurations allows users to select the optimal product based on their specific system requirements and equipment size constraints.
Looking ahead, as equipment demands for power supply safety and intelligence continue to rise, eFuse products with "wide voltage compatibility, low power consumption, and high integration" will become a standard configuration in more power supply designs.
Toshiba Semiconductor stated that it will continue to develop eFuse IC products tailored to the needs of diverse equipment and expand its product line portfolio in the future.
